Oppose HB500 & HB509. Fight Unjust Idaho Bills!

The Idaho legislature just passed HB500 and HB509, bills that ban transgender kids from participating in sports simply because of their gender identity and transgender people from updating their birth certificates. In times like these, when the world is paused during the coronavirus scare, we can’t help wondering why this bill is even being considered. These bills will harm transgender people in Idaho, and send a startling message to the country. We need your help to call on Governor Brad Little to veto this legislation.

The letter provided below is a sample template. Please change it to personalize it to your views and concerns. Here are a few key pieces of information you may wish to reference:

  • Being a kid is hard enough. We should make it easier, not harder. This bill is unfair and harms trans youth who just want to experience the valuable lessons of being on a team with their peers--teamwork, self-discipline, success, and failure.
  • Transgender people need to be able to access accurate birth certificates. They should be able to live fully as their true selves.
  • This is the first time this year any state legislature has passed this kind of anti-transgender legislation, and it sends the wrong message about Idaho values.

Please note: If you live outside of Idaho you'll need to submit your comments directly through the Governor's webform at:https://gov.idaho.gov/contact-us/
