Tell Tennessee legislators to Vote NO to SB 1861!

Protect trans youth email banner.png
It’s happening again. The extremists are targeting transgender youth. This time, right here in Tennessee. They want to ban hard-working students from participating in sports simply because of who they are. Plus, allow school personnel to disregard the pronouns that correspond to a student's gender identity.

Being a kid is hard enough. We should be making it easier, not harder. These bills are unfair and would harm trans youth. We will fight for every single one of Tennessee’s young people because they deserve respect and dignity like anyone else.

The time to act is NOW - let your legislators know that they must reject these discriminatory bills that would harm vulnerable trans youth.

The letter provided below is a sample template. Please change it to personalize it to your views and concerns. Here are a few key pieces of information you may wish to reference:

• Being a kid is hard enough. We should be making it easier, not harder.
• Trans youth deserve the opportunity to play the sports they love as their authentic selves, just like any other young athlete.
• School personnel should not have the right to determine the identities of others.
• Passing bills like SB 1861 would embolden other discriminatory laws to be passed across the state, putting trans people in harm’s way, yet again.

Don’t let a few extremist politicians put trans kids and teens at risk.

Please Oppose SB 1861

Dear [Decision Maker],

I'm writing to urge you to vote No to SB 1861!

Kids learn a lot of important lessons at school and in sports: leadership, confidence, self-discipline, self-respect, and what it means to be part of a team. SB 1861 would silence and force a vulnerable group of young people in Tennessee onto the sidelines. For transgender youth, many of whom experience high rates of depression and suicidality, access to sports and school activities can be lifesaving.

Tennessee should not have blanket policies that discriminate against kids or ban them from participating simply because they're transgender.

Thank you for your consideration.
