Urge Oklahoma Legislators to Protect Trans Youth!

_Gender-affirming care saves lives

Politicians in Oklahoma are debating a bill that aims to ban medical care for transgender youth! HB 2177, a ban on best practice medical care for trans youth and attacks public funding and insurance coverage of all gender affirming care is moving quickly through the state's legislature.

What HB 2177 will do, if this reckless piece of legislation is signed into law:

  • Minors under 18 years old will not be permitted to seek gender-affirming health care.
  • Strip parents of their fundamental right to guide the health care of their children.
  • Healthcare professionals and others may face legal consequences for referring or otherwise supporting trans youth in the process of gender affirming care.
  • Families will face increased insurance denials for tranisition related health care coverage.
  • Bans the access to public funding to any facility providing gender affirming care to trans people of any age.

HB 2177 displays a fundamental ignorance about medical treatment for transgender youth. Trans youth are not making medical decisions on their own. Parents, patients, and medical professionals – not politicians – should make the decisions about what medical care is in the best interest of any young person.

We won’t stand by as young trans people are discriminated against in this way. Help us make the voices of this vulnerable community heard, before it’s too late!

Please Vote No to HB 2177!

Dear [Decision Maker],

I am writing to urge you to vote no on the harmful bill HB 2177!

There is no reason why Oklahoma youth should be denied the right to best-practice medical care. This bill would cause long-lasting harm to transgender youth by invading the private lives of them and their families through government overreach.

We know that when young people are supported by their families and communities, they thrive.

Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,
