Vote NO to the "Don't Say LGBTQ" Bills

take-transgender-people-into-consideration.png

This is urgent!! Florida lawmakers are trying to pass the expansion of an anti-LGBTQ bill that would chill the free speech of thousands of Florida youth and teachers!!

SB 1320 blocks teachers from talking about LGBTQ issues or people and undermines existing protections for LGBTQ kids in schools. This legislation is meant to stigmatize LGBTQ people, isolate LGBTQ kids, and make teachers fearful of providing a safe, inclusive classroom.

If passed this bill would:

• Censor teaching anything about sexual orientation or gender identity up through 8th grade

• Broaden the bases for book bans

• Forbid any use of pronouns that respect a transgender student's identity.

The government should never have the power to censor and control classroom and school discussions. Yet, the leadership of the state legislature is fast-tracking an anti-LGBTQ bill that would do just that.

Send your message below and tell them to oppose expanding this bill!

As your constituent, I urge you to vote no to SB 1320!

Dear [Decision Maker],

I am writing to urge you to vote no on the expansion of the "Don't Say Gay" law!

SB 1320 would effectively erase LGBTQ students, families, and history by banning classroom discussions about sexual orientation and gender identity in schools. These bills have already had disastrous consequences and has left students more vulnerable and has potentially put them in danger.

I care about the health and well-being of all youth in Florida, and I know these types of laws would cause great harm to LGBTQ young people in our state.

Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,
