Tell the Governor to please veto HB500 and HB509.

The Idaho legislature just passed HB500 and HB509, bills that would ban transgender kids from participating in sports simply because of their gender identity and would ban transgender people from being able to update their birth certificates. These bills would harm our community in Idaho, and we need Governor Little to know that we won’t stand for it.

Being a kid is hard enough. We should be making it easier, not harder.

The letter provided below is a sample template. Please change it to personalize it to your views and concerns. Here are a few key pieces of information you may wish to reference:

  • Being a kid is hard enough. We should be making it easier, not harder. This bill is unfair and would harm trans youth in our community who just want to experience the valuable lessons of being on a team with their peers--teamwork, self-discipline, success, and failure.
  • Transgender youth deserve the opportunity to play the sports they love as their authentic selves, just like any other young athlete.
  • This is the first time this year any state legislature has passed this kind of anti-transgender legislation, and it sends the wrong message about Idaho values.
